17 October 2026 – 29 March 2027 | Chiostro del Bramante, Rome

Wonderful days in Rome, including a visit to FOOD. Il gusto nell’arte at the Chiostro del Bramante, where some of the JELLO glass objects are on display alongside works by Marina Abramović, Sophie Calle, Daniel Spoerri, David LaChapelle, Vanessa Beecroft and many others.

Curated by Suzanne Landau and organised by DART – Chiostro del Bramante, the exhibition brings together around 190 works by more than 60 artists and designers. Spanning historical still lifes, sculpture, photography, film and contemporary design, it explores food as a subject of pleasure, ritual, memory and cultural history.

JELLO: From Historical Pudding Moulds to Handblown Glass

The JELLO collection by STUDIO BERG, the Berlin design studio of Friederike Delius, grew out of an interest in antique copper and cast-iron jelly and pudding moulds. Once used to create elaborate desserts for festive tables, these historic forms produced sweets that were almost temporary sculptures, made to be admired before they disappeared.

JELLO takes their elaborate silhouettes and gives them a new life as coloured glass objects. The cloches are mouth-blown in Germany, using historic moulds or moulds developed from antique originals, then finished by hand in Czech glass workshops. Each piece is slightly different.

At FOOD. Il gusto nell’arte, a selection of JELLOs appears alongside antique copper pudding moulds and historical documents. The pairing shows the connection between dessert culture, craft and contemporary object design.

Originally created as little hiding places for jewellery and other treasures, JELLOs can also live on a coffee table, in the kitchen or in the centre of a dining table. Their shapes evoke childhood memories, feasts, fairy tales and elaborate banquets.

JELLO in the FOOD Exhibition Catalogue and Museum Shop

Another memorable part of the Rome visit was seeing the museum shop filled with posters, postcards, placemats and mousepads featuring photographs of my JELLOs by Anne Deppe and me :)

The photographs have been reproduced in a range of products created to accompany the exhibition. The official FOOD. Il gusto nell’arte catalogue also features a double-page photograph of the JELLO collection.

Seen JELLO on a Poster or Postcard in Rome?

If you came across the pink, red, green or cream-coloured JELLOs on a poster, a postcard, a placemat or a mousepad at the Chiostro del Bramante bookshop and wondered what they were, here is the original collection.

JELLOs are handblown glass cloches, not edible desserts. They are designed by Friederike Delius for STUDIO BERG in Berlin and made in collaboration with specialist glass workshops in Europe. The collection includes five shapes in a range of colours, from creamy pastels to deep translucent glass.
